Humanitarian Day International and Sustainable Aid Foundation collaborated in 2020 for the HDAY Ramadan Zakat Al Fitr and Eid Adha Qurbani projects. The Qurbani project took place at the Kapartu Village, at the southernmost tip of Malawi that boarders Mozambique. Approximately five hundred Muslims live in that village. Due to its remoteness, it is often underserved by the government and other NGOs. HDI and SAF purposely targeted this village to increase the social impact despite the challenges.
The village members are farmers. They depend on farming maize, supplemented by herbs. Farming is the only source of income. Single mothers with an average family sizes of between 4 – 6 kids dominate the family structure. Many mothers accept to care for additional orphaned children as well.
The 2020 Qurbani Project:
• Served about 70 families
• All goats purchased, were from local women farmers.
• Annually HDAY Qurbani can establish an annual source of income for farmers.
• It was the 1st time the village received this type of humanitarian services.
• The members of the village were overwhelmed with joy and gratefulness.
