Ms. Jamilah Rauf was one of the top students in Ghana’s secondary school final exams conducted for all West African graduating students. The family was so happy with her achievement. A total of 375,763 candidates from 976 schools entered for this examination; according to The West African Examinations Council
Subsequently, she received an admission letter to the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah University (KNU) in Kumasi to study automotive engineering. According to Uni Rank, KNU is the 2nd rank university in Ghana, behind only the University of Ghana. Jamilah’s success became a source of stress for her parents who could not afford the university admission fees.
A deserving student in need of a scholarship was an opportunity HDI could not resist. For the next 4 years HDI and our partnering organization AYYAD have committed to pay for all Jamilah’s school fees. She is responsible in return to maintain a B average or above. Here family will take care of all her non-academic related expenses.
The social impact of graduating from KNU automotive engineering program will be amazing. There a very few women in this field, especially Muslim. Our goal is to encourage her to purse her masters that will create a long term sense of stability for her and her family.
